I was a little bit worried that it might be too small for carrying what he needed for school - but it's worked great. It's a great size for him - not huge on his back - not too small either. And it fits a standard size school folder just fine. {He has not needed to carry anything bigger for school. It might not fit a 3 ring binder - I haven't tried.} He also has room for extras like his sweatshirt or his show & tell item. He takes a Skip Hop Zoo Insulated Lunch Bag to school - and it fits just fine in the insulated cooler part.
